Van Morrison is being recognized by his hometown.
The rock legend was honored on Friday with the Freedom of the City award at an event in Belfast, Northern Ireland.
The "Belfast Telegraph" says in presenting the award, the city's Lord Mayor described the singer as one of Belfast's greatest stars. He also quoted Morrison's lyrics in saying the honor represents the local residents' "love, respect and gratitude for Van Morrison from the 'dark side of the street to the bright side of the road.'"
Morrison also played a special concert as part of the ceremony, after receiving a special scroll and a gold key.
He's just the second person in the past ten years to be given Belfast's Freedom of the City award.
