ABBA: Fashion Tax Breaks + Reunion Rumors

Musicians embrace eccentric fashion for all kinds of reasons: to make statements, to be remembered…and to collect tax breaks? At least that's the case for ABBA, who revealed this weekend that their platform boots and hotpants were worn solely in the name of fiscal responsibility.

The band's new book, ABBA: The Official Photo Book, credits ABBA's fashion sense to laws that allowed outfits "too outrageous to be worn on the street" to be deducted against tax.

So despite their seeming propensity to get dressed in the dark, rest assured each sequined jumpsuit was a deliberate, though not necessarily appealing, choice. "In my honest opinion we looked like nuts in those years. Nobody can have been as badly dressed on stage as we were," said band member Björn Ulvaeus in ABBA’s book.

Regardless of the news, it’s doubtful the four-member group has lost any loyal 'Dancing Queen' or 'Mamma Mia' fans. However, Ulvaeus did also make a point to squash any rumors that the Swedish pop act will reunite for a 40th anniversary celebration this year.

Talk of a comeback stirred when singer Agnetha Faltskop said last November that the group was “thinking about” getting back together. Then Ulvaeus told a British media outlet, “The (Rolling) Stones have chosen to keep on playing and that’s okay. But for us to suddenly make a comeback? Why? If any one of us has opened the door a crack, I’m shutting it now!”
