Few manuscripts of Bruce Springsteen's 1975 hit "Born to Run" are available, and for the estimated price of $70,000 to $100,000, one of them could be yours! Sotheby's will offer the working lyrical draft for auction on December 5th.
The manuscript was handwritten by Springsteen in 1974 and includes early word choices, marginal notes and an autograph from the musician. According to Sotheby's auction notes, "This iteration expresses the darkness that the early versions are known for, but has the distinction of a nearly perfected chorus."
The manuscript comes from the collection of Springsteen's former manager, Mike Appel and is one of only two existing that include the song's most famous lines. All factors combined make the single 8.5-by-11 piece of notebook paper one of the most precious (and expensive) in circulation.
